About Us
Friends of Dedham Church is an independent registered charity dedicated to protecting and preserving St Mary the Virgin, Dedham, one of the most significant historic buildings in the Stour Valley.
Established in 2004, the charity raises funds to help maintain, repair and enhance the church, its churchyard and its many historic features. Our work helps ensure that this remarkable building remains open, welcoming and cared for, not only as a place of worship, but as an important part of Dedham’s heritage and community life.
Whether you are a local resident, regular visitor, former parishioner or simply someone who values historic buildings, you can play an important part in safeguarding St Mary’s for future generations.
Why Our Church Matters
Construction of St Mary the Virgin began in 1492, and for more than five centuries the church has stood at the heart of Dedham. Its magnificent 131-foot tower dominates the landscape of Constable Country and has become one of the village’s defining landmarks.
The church has welcomed generations of worshippers, celebrated countless family milestones and inspired visitors from around the world, including the artist John Constable, who featured the church in many of his paintings.
